Exploring Glazunov's "Three Small Portraits" Op.42

As a famous Russian musician and educator,Rimsky cultivated many prestigious students.He once commented on one of his excellent students: "in the music area,he is not making progress every day,but every moment." this student is Glazunov.Generally,we define Glazunov as a composer of symphonies,but when it comes to his piano works,they are not eclipsed.Op.42 is a set of three pieces of piano works,which is fresh,natural,bright and beautiful.In this paper,I will analyze the characteristics of music form,themes and harmony,rhythm and the sound and visual effects of this set of works.And also the performance techniques that are required to show theses features.The current study of it is very limited.Taking that into consideration,this paper attempts to have a deeper analysis of Glazunov's style of composing from the those aspects listed above.
