The Application Of Translator's Information Literacy In Legal Literature Translation

This report is based on Women and Personal Property in the Victorian Novel written by Dr.Deborah Wynne from University of Chester.The author translated Chapter Two of the book and wrote this translation report on such basis.This chapter mainly tries to dissect the inner thoughts of Charles Dickens on the social status of women and their personal property by analyzing the plots and characters in the novels written by Charles Dickens,meanwhile reflecting the legal environment of that time.It mainly has connection with three of the most well-known masterpieces of Dickens,Great Expectation,Bleak House and Little Dorrit.Since the text is to explore legal issues based on literary works,the author of the book cites a large number of original sentences in the text,with beautiful rhetoric and long sentence patterns.It also involves a large number of characters in the original works.Such legal literature review texts are quite novel in their entry points,without losing the literacy of literature and the rigor of law.They have certain reference significance for the study of contemporary scholars.This report therefore aims to examine the positive role of good translators’ information literacy in translating such interdisciplinary texts and to explore how to adopt appropriate strategies to deal with such textual translations.This translation report consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the project background,project objectives and significance,report structure and research methods;the second chapter outlines the author’s pre-translation preparation at the beginning of the project;the third chapter combines the textual characteristics of legal literature review texts.Some examples are given to illustrate the positive impact of translators’ information literacy on the translation process in the author’s practice.The fourth chapter concludes the lessons learned from this practice and some problems still to be further researched.
