This English-Chinese translation practice is chosen from the nonfictional novel Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup written by John Carreyrou, the Wall Street Journal reporter and the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. The author narrates a Silicon Valley scandal, the $ 10 billion tech scam of the US biotech startup Theranos. The scam was dominated by the company's founder,Elizabeth Holmes, and even involved American celebrities in political and financial circles. In the book, the author revealed the scam through interviews of a large number of people and news materials. And he illustrates that the company Holmes founded was nothing more than a pile of lies. The concise source text intends to convey the most faithful message to the reader. The novel includes twenty-four chapters. The translator selects the Author's note,Prologue and the first five chapters("A purposeful life","The gluebot","Apple's envy"," Goodbye East Paly” and "Childhood Neighbor")as translation materials. It is intended to call attention to the emerging biomedical investment market and innovation and entrepreneurship market in China.According to the analysis of the translation materials, the translator finds that the text types and functions of the various parts of the text are almost same: mainly informative texts, followed by some expressive texts. The translator chooses Peter Newmark's text type theory and semantic translation and communicative translation strategies as guidance to make the translation achieve better results. On the basis of maintaining the accuracy of the original text, the translator has polished some languages in order not to make the text too insipid,so that the target language readers can read more beautiful language. The report consists of five parts. The first chapter is the Introdution, which introduces a rough analysis of translation materials(author and source text),related background introduction, and the significance of translation. The second chapter illustrates the translation process. They are preparation,during-translation,and post-translation revision.During the preparation process, the original text is analyzed in detail, and appropriate translation tools are selected. After the translator reads through the text,a glossary is created to maintain consistency between the content before and after. The process of translation is to raise common problems and find solutions tocommon problems. The revision process is mainly based on experience and external guidance to make the text more readable;Chapter three is the theoretical framework selected by the translator, which introduces mainly translation theories and strategies based on the features of the original text;Chapter four is the case study, according to the characteristics of the source text, the author puts forward the problems mainly at the sentence and lexical level. The difficulty of the sentence pattern is how to arrange the sentence structure and faithfully convey the original information. The lexical problem is mainly to choose the most accurate meaning from multiple meanings. The translator divides and analyzes the cases according to different focuses, and proposes translation solutions. The last chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the experience of the translator in this translation project and the understanding of applying the translation theory to the project and explaines the deficiencies that the translator still have in the translation.
