Xi Zhigan is one of the representatives of Hubei drama circle in the new period. His plays are the best portrayal of the commonness, revolutionary and epochal nature of Hubei’s dramas. They also blend the hot allegorical, humorous and tearful style of Hubei Peking Opera.Xi Zhigan was an unknown writer in the creation team of Hubei Peking Opera Theater in his early days.Due to the influence of his own growth environment and historical and cultural factors,he often took little people as the masters of the events to unfold strange drama stories, revealing social contradictions and the psychological trauma of the bottom class. With the publication of Xu Jiujing’s Official Promotion in 1981,Xi Zhigan made his mark in the drama circle.Since then,he and his creative team have started the Hubei Peking Opera creation mode, which is based on ugly behaviors and highlights. They have continuously made new explorations in the theme, ideological theme and presentation of plays, pushing the Hubei Peking Opera to a peak.In his creation,Xi Zhigan consciously evaded the characteristics of traditional operas that are good at preaching and admonishing.Through the skillful arrangement of the relationship between characters, the arrangement of two parallel lines and the plot structure of twists and turns,he exerted himself to show the inner struggle of the little people who made difficult choices in front of big events and the true, good and beautiful quality of justice and human feelings even though they were persecuted.Under the guidance of this kind of behavioral thinking, this paper attempts to summarize the content, language and structural features of Xi Zhigan’s plays, hoping to provide some experience and enlightenment for the current stage of drama creation.
