Research On The "Lian... Ye..." Structure Based On CCL Corpus

The “lian......ye......” structure is a high-frequency usage in modern Chinese.Using the data collected from the CCL corpus of Peking University,this thesis studies the “lian......ye......”structure on the basis of proper corpus with the method of statistical analysis.First of all,this thesis analyses the components following “lian......ye......” structure and its grammatical relations.And then it also observes the syntactic functions and semantic relations of the “lian......ye......”structure.Finally,based on the above,the thesis provides a cognitive basis for the word class of“lian” and explains the semantic functions of the structure of “lian......ye......” from the cognitive perspective.This thesis is mainly divided into the following parts:Firstly,the thesis finds that the “lian......ye......” structure has apparent distribution law.The components following “lian” are mainly substantive components,which are mainly noun phrases,so the main function of “lian” structure is to lead to substantive components.While the components following “ye” are mainly predicate components,which are mainly verbal phrases,so the components following “ye” mainly describe and dictate the components following “lian”.Secondly,it finds that the distribution of the grammatical relations of components following“lian......ye......” is highly focused,while it is also affected by the structure.We find that subject-predicate relation and verb-object relation are the primary grammatical relations of components following “lian” and “ye”,with minor relations such as adverbial-head relations and repeated application of verbs.“lian......ye......” structure plays the role of emphasizing: the sentence order doesn’t change when emphasizing the subject;“lian” will be in advance when emphasizing the object,the adverbial,the object of prepositional phrase;the verbs will be repeated when emphasizing the predicate verbs.Thirdly,it finds that the functions of the “lian......ye......” structure are diverse,mainly used as the ending clauses in the complex sentences.The sentences composed by “lian......ye......”structure are various,such as subject-predicate sentence,verb-object sentence,adverbial-head sentence and sentences formed by repeated application of verbs.It can also be used as syntactic components,mainly as attribute,complement,object.According to the different meanings of modal adverbs before “lian”,the “lian......ye......” sentences mainly convey repetition mood and deductive tone and transitional mood.The distribution of “lian......ye......” clauses is flexible and they are located in the initial,middle and the end of the sentence.But it mainly plays the role of supplementing the end of topics at the end of a sentence.The high-frequency semantic relation between clauses is addictive relationship,with a few other relations such as continuity relation,which confirms that the “lian......ye......” structure mainly expresses repetition mood,which assembles the distribution of model adverbs.Fourthly,the structure of “lian......ye......” is cognitively interpreted.In the structure,“lian”corresponds to the characteristics of the typical members of the category of preposition: the object cannot be neglected,“lian” cannot be used alone,“lian” cannot be predicate verb,“lian”cannot be used with other prepositions on the same level.“lian” corresponds with the characteristics of members of the category of prepositions.Therefore,in the “lian......ye......”structure,“lian” is the preposition.The “lian......ye......” structure stresses the focuses,and it is often expressed to the maximum,mainly using three forms such as semantic sequence,extreme word and part of speech.The thesis also confirms that the “lian......ye......” structure will approve or disapprove all the sentence meaning through approving or disapproving extreme cases,which will expand the expression ranges.This conclusion provides cognitive basis that “lian......ye......”structure often plays the role of emphasis,supplementing and explaining at the end of a sentence.
