Chinese society at the end of the twentieth century is in a period of earth-shaking changes.The advent of the new era has brought confusion to artists.The influence of western modernist trends has allowed artists to show their spirit of exploration of rebellion against reality.In the 1990 s,with the voice of group power,Gu Wenda always contended as an individual artist with the group,using the transformation of Chinese characters to open up a new era of concept ink panting in China.After going abroad,Gu Wenda shifted his creative focus to the understanding of human beings and their materials.The participation of the audience also became part of his creation.The interpretation of the political,cultural and identity aspects involved in his works and his personal experience and location time background of the times is inextricably linked.As an overseas returnee artist who insists on actively choosing and challenging history,Gu Wenda's artistic ideas and works of art have attracted the attention of Chinese and foreign art circles.Such attention and the artist's views on criticism have also created typical criticism cases and text resources for art criticism.This article is based on Gu Wenda's existing art criticism theory,focusing on the artist's artistic style in each period,as well as the artist's personal historical background.On this basis,this article discusses Gu Wenda's art creation and traditional ink and wash,social life and aesthetics.
