When Sigmund Freud(1856-1939)talked about creativity and unconsciousness,he said that before the viewer guessed the artist’s intention,he needed to explain the works of art in some way,so he proposed psychoanalysis as a way to explore the language of art.As the core of psychoanalysis,Subconscious plays a leading role in people’s spiritual life. Therefore,in order to achieve the purpose of using psychoanalysis theory to analyze artistic language, the key lies in the exploration of the Subconscious field. Then according to the comparison between the two surrealist masters,Rene Magritte(1898-1967)and Paul Delvaux(1897-1994),the importance of the subconscious to the artistic language is interpreted.First of all, from the perspective of Freud’s psychoanalysis theory,it briefly summarizes the relevant theories of the Subconscious, and clarifies the core position of the Subconscious in the psychoanalysis theory,as well as the premise that dream is a way to the Subconscious.Extending the Subconscious gradually from the application of psychology to the research of art field,it has become an important means to study the artistic works and the creative intention of modern and contemporary artists.Secondly,it shows that the existence of the Subconscious affects the artists’ choice of creative themes. It is generally believed that the creation subject matter is the result of the artist’s initiative choice. In fact, there are also some sources from the artist’s childhood experience,Oedipus complex and repression mechanism. Then through the comparative analysis of different creative themes of Magritte and Delvaux,it shows the significance of Subconscious as the source of their elements. At the same time, there is an inseparable relationship between the Subconscious and the dream. The existence of the dream makes the Subconscious play a deep role in the painting language,so as to better understand the real feelings of artists. On this basis, this paper focuses on the spatial layout and image arrangement of Magritte and Delvaux ’s respective pictures, showing the different ways in which they manifest the Subconscious. Finally, although Magritte and Delvaux are influenced by the Subconscious and lead to different painting languages, the starting point and aesthetic expression of the pictures they construct are all the display of a real dream. Finally,it presents the same aesthetic characteristics to people, and achieves the sublimation of emotional expression under the influence of Subconscious.
