Since the reform of the Chinese film market in the 1990s,documentary films have gradually been replaced by commercial feature films.The rise of television documentaries and internet video platforms has also diminished the audience's awareness of film viewing,which has allowed documentary films to return to the cinema.Progress is difficult.In recent years,with the Himalaya:Ladder to Paradise,Born in China,and Twenty-two,excellent performances in the market have entered the public eye,which has attracted widespread attention from the movie market and audiences,and has also changed the audience 's awareness.At the same time,the academic community has also begun to focus on the market performance of documentary films,and discussions about the entry of documentary films to the cinema are endless.Based on this,this article takes Chinese documentary film as the research object,analyzes the development and innovation of documentary film in cinema theater under different backgrounds by combing the development process of marketization of Chinese documentary film,and reflect on the current difficulties and shortcomings of cinematic documentary films,and try to put forward targeted thinking and suggestions.This article is mainly divided into three chapters:The first chapter focuses on reviewing the development history and market status of Chinese documentary film.The purpose is to present the socio-economic background of the development of documentary film,and to analyze the current film audience's attitude towards documentary film and understand the market demand through questionnaires.Studies have found that there is an inevitable reason for documentary films to gradually fade out of cinemas.As documentary films have undertaken the task of propaganda and education in China for a long time,when facing fierce film market competition,they lack market awareness,it is difficult to change their creative style,and they cannot meet the audience's diverse viewing needs.However,with the increasing involvement of private capital and the vigorous development of the Internet,it has provided more possibilities for documentary films to return to cinemas,and audiences are constantly changing their perceptions of documentary films,and potential audiences are on the rise.The second chapter starts from 2010 to study the "return" road of the Chinese documentary film,and divides 2010-2019 into three development stages according to the performance of the film market.Each stage has its own development characteristics and representativeness.Through staged exploration and experience,we can find that documentary films are constantly adjusting their development strategies according to market demands,and analyze the reasons for the development of cinema lines with typical cases.The study found that,driven by external factors such as national policy support,the rise of the film market,and internal factors such as the creative conception and change of creators,the performance of documentary films in the theater market continued to break through,there are more and more excellent works of public praise and box office.Cinematic documentary film has a broader space for development.The third chapter deeply explores the specific dilemma of the production,distribution and screening of cinematic documentary films,and combines the methods of in-depth interviews to put forward corresponding reflections on the development issues facing cinematic documentary films.The state must provide more policy support for documentary films in terms of macro-control.The film market also needs to embrace and accept documentary film with a more inclusive attitude,providing documentary films with greater growth space.And more importantly,the documentary film industry itself must not only "create blood" to cultivate more young talents who can create and understand the market,but also"change blood" and establish market concepts.The research and sorting out in this article can provide a reference for the development of Chinese cinema film,and hope to promote the long-term development of Chinese documentary films in a more mature market environment.
