The Construction Of Political Power Between The Liang And Tang Dynasties

This paper focuses on the two dynasties of Later Liang and later Tang,discusses the changes of government’s ruling ability since the end of Tang Dynasty,and puts forward its own views on the concept of "Fanzhen state".With the sudden change of Wang and Huang,the existing balance between the central government and the local government was broken,and the system dominated by the vassal towns was gradually established.Zhu Wen,a scoundrel born at the bottom of the society,started up as the military governor of Xuanwu army and became a great leader.Finally,the last emperor of Tang Dynasty abdicated and handed over the crown to the strong governor.Although Later Liang always strictly controlled the king’s base plate with Henan Road as the center,the successful experience of cutting down vassals and suppressing towns could not be introduced into Hebei area which did not recognize the orthodox status of the ruling group.As a result,Houliang group had to implement a very different dual track system at home and abroad,while the involvement of foreign powers also weakened its ability to prevent any region from withdrawing from the unitary order at will.This paper tends to jump out of the stereotype that the status of the vassal organization or the staff remains unchanged,and turn to position the Later Liang Dynasty as a "Fanzhen Association" connected with the periphery by marriage and kinship.In contrast,the process of Shatuo group’s entering the Central Plains is more stable,and its prospect is more clear.First of all,the imperial blood and the adoption of the Tang calendar strategy brought the incomparable legitimacy of the previous generation,which was also strengthened by the comprehensive military conquest.On this basis,the later Tang Dynasty continued to use the measures such as moving the military governor to other towns,enriching the forbidden army and separating the relationship between the military governor and local guardian to cut the vassal and achieved considerable results.After the region of Mingzong period,the discourse power of local vassals has been suppressed to a relatively low level.The whole political power is no longer divided into internal and external,and the political orders are relatively the same,so it can be called"Fanzhen state".This paper attempts to break the shackles of treating the Five Dynasties as the expanded version of the Tang Dynasty military governor,try to find the internal differences between the Later Liang and the Later Tang Dynasty,and finally amend the academic views on the Five Dynasties.
