Both Jia Dashan and Jia Pingwa have won the First National Outstanding Short Story Award for Learn From Experience and The Full Moon respectively,and they are all very popular in the 1970s and 1980s because of their literary achievements.At that time,they were called "the two Mr.Jia in the literary world”.However,after that they were respectively neglected or praised in the literary world.The reason for this was thought-provoking.This is not only related to their respective disposition characteristic,writing strategy and attitude of creation,but also closely related to the state of literary production in a certain period.We could explore the unique mirror image of New Period Literature by analyzing the reasons for the ups and downs of the "the two Mr.Jia" in the literary world.After all,only by placing the historical term "the two Mr.Jia",which is created by the times,into the specific "literary field",can its significance be effectively highlighted,otherwise it will only become an "empty signifier" abandoned by history.In fact,if it had not been for the high position of literature at the beginning of the new era,Jia Dashan and Jia Pingwa would never have been quickly known for a single award.In other words,the timing in which Jia Dashan and Jia Pingwa entered the literary world is very important.The appearance of the term"the two Mr.Jia in the literary world"absolutely depends on the special historical context of that time!At the same time,"the two Mr.Jia" also has many similarities in the creation indeed,which provides a very solid foundation for the "comparability" between them.Specifically,"the two Mr.Jia" both have a strong sense of local complex,but Jia Dashan and Jia Pingwa gives readers a fresh or mysterious picture of the countryside by using simple or heavy prose.And this kind of native writing characteristic’s formation is interrelated with the literature nourishment that they accepted in the past reading process.Obviously,both of them are influenced by Sun Li’s writing style.However,Jia Dashan and Jia Pingwa’s acceptance of Sun Li is not synchronous,but in different periods of creation.Jia Dashan learnt from Sun Li when he was at a deep stage of artistic exploration.On the contrary,Jia Pingwa was in the early stages of his creation when he learnt from Sun Li.This led Jia Dashan and Jia Pingwa to take separate paths of deepening and transcending.In addition,both Jia Dashan and Jia Pingwa were keen to learn from the discourse resource of ancient Chinese literature,and created a series of more professional "new note-novels" around the 1990s,and respectively follow the direction of the "recording figure" and "recording apparition" to convey the antique style and modem sentiment with the article.We can also use this to explore the cultural consciousness and the experience of life which was manifested in the "the two Mr.Jia".In fact,both of them were fond of Zen and Tao,but Jia Dashan was more interested in learning about Buddhism and Taoism in order to find a state of peace,silence and unconstraint,while Jia Pingwa recognized a variety of aspects of Buddhism and Taoism.That is,the culture of Buddhism and Taoism not only advocates self-cultivation,but also contains many legendary and mysterious factors.Therefore,unlike Jia DaShan’s daily writing,Jia Pingwa’s works are full of strange and mysterious magic.Of course,it can not be ignored that the formation of a writer’s cultural consciousness must not only rely on books and classics,what’s more important is to accept the influence of regional culture.Moreover,the experience of disease also plays an important role in the construction of the writer’s subjective spirit and the formation of his artistic style.In a word,this paper aims to make a comparative study of the "the two Mr.Jia"from the various perspectives of literature production,the local consciousness and cultural inheritance,and intends to further consider such important problem as the limits of the spread of the literary tradition in the liberated areas and the national literary tradition in the contemporary novel creation from the perspective of the " the two Mr.Jia",which is also the current significance of the study of "the two Mr.Jia ".
