| Liu Zhenyun,a man of some consequence on the modern literary scene,has published many writings within the 40 years since his maiden work One Night in Melon Land in 1979.His writings includes nine long novels and several short novels,of which also some officialdom novels such as Office,Feathers All Over The Ground,Officialdom and Officials.This thesis,implementing a combination of text analysis and culture study,thoroughly and detailedly analyzes Liu’s Officialdom novels,with discussions of ways of the text presentation,narration strategies and its values.This Thesis is divided into four sections.The Narration Section takes analysis of connotation of novels and its flourishment on historical and realistic level.Based upon the prior studies and research,this thesis has displayed the methods and meanings in studying Liu’s officialdom novels.The 1~stt chapter,beginning with Liu’s self experience and social atmosphere of that time,points out the subject content of Officialdom writing and explains the theme surrounding intellectual imagery,power handovers and change of humanity.Intellectuals of the three kinds who struggle in downfalls,who fight corruptions and who are in misery,influenced by switching of power have an ever increasing greed to power and they know very well how to use power,thus forms a consciousness of Me-first and Benefits-first and finally walks on a road to extreme abnormity.The 2~ndd chapter takes analysis of Liu’s narration strategies,including irony narration,repetitive narration and imagery narration,through which Liu’s charming writing style is strengthened.Wording Irony and situational irony are primely applied to irony narration.Enormous contrast between inhesion and nature of objects give prominence to the writer’s subject content;Repetitive narration by using repetitive words,repetitive events and repetitive scenes indicate intellectuals’boring and petty daily life.Imagery narration with the use of images such as“Debauched scenes”,“Toilets”,“Animals”and“People”has shown a real picture of Officialdom and the grassroots’intellectuals’misery life,as well as middle-class intellectuals’corruptions.In conclusion,use of narration strategies makes intellectuals’images more vivid and the writer’s attitude more obvious towards the revealing of the dark“hidden rules”in officialdom,criticizing of power handovers and sympathizing to intellectuals.The 3~rdd chapter talks about the values of Liu’s novels and indicates the writer’s standing point towards grassroots and humanity.The summery concludes the thesis,that is Liu’s writing values and significance. |
