A Study Of Male Images In Korean Dramas Under Confucian Culture

China's Confucian culture has a profound influence,which has been the cultural origin of many East Asian countries,including Japan and Korea.Korea belonging to the Confucian culture circle,Confucian culture is not only the main ethical thought in Korean society but also is reflected in its Korean dramas.Under the influence of Confucian culture,Confucian ethical thoughts and patriarchal ideas in Korean society,the male images in Korean dramas carry more cultural connotation,full of vitality and philosophy,which both have culture and tension.The research object----the male images in Reply 1988----represents the Korean social life,national image and morality and ethics by means of interpersonal relationship in the household,reflecting the Confucian culture most vividly.This paper is based on the case analysis and text analysis.Firstly,the images design of the male characters in Reply 1988 is interpreted by his appearance,clothing,expression and action.Secondly,the intrinsic characters of the male characters are classified based on his appearance and it is emphasized on the cultural connotation behind the benevolence,righteousness,etiquette and wisdom in Confucian culture.At last,the development of the male images in Korean dramas in the Confucian culture is discussed.According to the research,the male images in Korean dramas reflect the Confucian culture with different degrees.The Confucian culture also contributes to the image-building and intercultural communication.In addition,even if the patriarchy in Korean culture has been weakened consciously,the male images still are full of power under the strong influence of Confucian culture.This research is not only the supplementation of the study to the cultural connotation of male images in Korean dramas but also it can contribute to build a successful image.
