In the context of globalization,cross-cultural awareness has become the basic quality of qualified citizens in the 21 st century. In intercultural communication,English has gradually become the language that must be mastered in intercultural communication. In addition to learning to use English as a language for proper intercultural communication,we should also have the intercultural knowledge to understand the culture of western countries as a support,so as to constantly absorb and accept various forms of culture of different countries in our communication. In addition, the English curriculum standards for compulsory education(2011 edition)also make clear requirements for the cultivation of students' cultural awareness.Students are required to be familiar with and understand the culture of English speaking countries. Therefore,it is particularly necessary to cultivate students' cross-cultural awareness in primary school English teaching. How about the current status of cultural awareness cultivation in primary school English teaching? What problems do teachers have in carrying out cultural teaching and what level of cross-cultural awareness do primary school students have? These questions will be the focus of this paper. This research focuses on the cultivation of primary school students' cross-cultural consciousness. In this paper, the author first elaborated the relevant theoretical research on cross-cultural consciousness at home and abroad, which sorted out the relationship between language and culture,cross-cultural consciousness and other related concepts. In the following part, the author conducts a questionnaire survey and interviews with students and teachers of the internship schools to further understand students' cross-cultural awareness level and teachers' cultural teaching status in current English teaching in primary schools. The questionnaire is divided into teachers' and students' questionnaires. The questionnaire questions are used to investigate teachers' and students' mastery of cross-cultural knowledge, their attitude towards and understanding of cross-cultural English learning, their performance of cross-cultural behaviors in daily learning and life, and their actual cultural teaching. The results of questionnaire and interview show that students are weak in cross-cultural awareness, utilitarian in English learning, and do not pay attention to cross-cultural learning.Lack of initiative to learn cultural knowledge, independent learning ability is not strong; On the other hand, teachers' own cultural knowledge reserve is insufficient, their attention to cultural teaching is insufficient, and their intercultural teaching methods are single. The reasons include the lack of English cultural knowledge and the weakness of cross-cultural awareness.Teachers have insufficient understanding of intercultural teaching, and the teaching evaluation method is single. The arrangement of cultural knowledge in English teaching materials is fragmentary and not systematic. Then the author puts forward the corresponding countermeasures and Suggestions.First of all, students should cultivate their own intrinsic motivation to learn English culture and independent inquiry ability.Secondly, teachers should change their teaching ideas, improve their comprehensive quality, flexibly use diversified teaching methods, and promote the implementation of cultural teaching.Thirdly, schools should organize teachers to make full use of modern educational technology.Create a cross-cultural communication environment, and gradually cultivate students' cross-cultural awareness.
