Wu Chengen,the character Ruzhong,was named Sheyang Shanren,Sheyang Jushi,a native of Shanyang County in Huai'an Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty.He is well-known at home and abroad for his novel “Journey to the West”,and his poetry and lyrics also have outstanding achievements and characteristics.His poetry and prose are opposed to retro-classicism,paying attention to the subject consciousness and romantic spirit,innovating the writing style,have unique value in the trend of retro-classicism,and at the same time,they are inextricably linked with psychology.The collection of ci he edited,“Huacao Xinbian”,adopts the style of dividing and arranging,which is of great significance to the selection of ci in the Ming Dynasty.Wu Chengen has a great personality.He regards himself as a “Pengmaolangshi” and has a free and easy personality.He also puts forward many innovative theories.This paper takes “Mr.Sheyang's Preserving Manuscripts” as the main research text,and grasps the characteristics of Wu Chengen's poetry,prose and ci from the background of literary theory trend in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,and affirms the research value and literary significance of his poetry,ci and literary thoughts,and understands Wu Chengen's living state and spiritual world.The full text is divided into five parts.The introduction mainly introduces the reasons and significance,research methods and current research status of Wu Chengen's poetry and lyrics.The first chapter is the study of Wu Chengen's personality and mentality,which is divided into three sections.The first section starts from Wu Chengen's life background and introduces Wu Chengen's personality characteristics and talent temperament.The second section introduces the influence of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism on Wu Chengen and the related embodiments in his poetry and prose.The third section analyses Wu Chengen's psychological change process from enthusiasm to calmness in treating imperial examinations.The second chapter is the study of Wu Chengen's poetry and prose,which is mainly divided into four sections.The first section discusses the innovative value of Wu Chengen's poetry and prose writing from his rebellion against the theory of restoring the ancients.The second section elaborates the subjective consciousness and romantic spirit of Wu Chengen's poetry and prose from the perspective of the influence of his psychological trend.The third section elaborates Wu Chengen's innovative continuation of the retro-style “poetry must be prosperous Tang” theory and highlights the new meaning of his literary creation.Section IV studies Wu Chengen's works on behalf of others,and expounds why and the historical value of these works,affirming the value of Wu Chengen's works on behalf of others.The third chapter is the study of Wu Chengen's ci.In the first section,Wu Chengen's ci is placed in the background of the decline of the ci circle in the Ming Dynasty,explores the influence of Wu Chengen's ci and its unique value,and expounds Wu Chengen's ci theory,negates Wu Chengen's view that ci in the Tang Dynasty is better than ci in the Song Dynasty.The second section,with Wu Chengen's anthology "Huacao Xinbian" as the main body,discusses its relationship with "Huacao Cuibian",and analyses the prospective and important significance of the classification and arrangement adopted by Wu Chengen.The fourth chapter is about the literary circle and Wu Chengen's literature in the mid-Ming Dynasty.It studies Wu Chengen's literary creation under the background of the retro theory and the mindset of the mid-Ming Dynasty.The first section explores the convergence and contradiction between Wu Chengen's literary creation and the theory of retro-classicism on the basis of Wu Chengen's friendship with the seven sons around him.The second section discusses Wu Chengen's pursuit of "sentiment" and "interest" in the background of Ming Dynasty's theory of empathy and interest seeking.The third section elaborates Wu Chengen's thought of taking real life and folk literature as the basis in his literary creation,affirming his reflection of reality and his absorption of folk literature.
