Vocabulary teaching is the foundation and key to improve the ability of Chinese comprehension and expression.The traditional teaching mode of Chinese as a foreign language is teacher-oriented,with a single method,and students passively accept knowledge,ignoring the cultivation of students’cognitive ability.Especially for beginners,who are new to Chinese,they are confused by a large number of words with complicated meanings and usages,and face the problem of low interest and low enthusiasm.Schema theory in cognitive psychology provides new ideas for improving teaching.Domestic researchers have also found the relationship between schema theory and Chinese teaching.Extensive studies have been carried out on the four skills but the research on Chinese language elements,especially vocabulary,has not been in-depth,and there is a lack of effective specific teaching methods.By sorting out the development of schema theory,the principles and strategies of Chinese vocabulary teaching,this paper selects the most suitable schema classification method for Chinese vocabulary teaching,investigates the vocabulary learning situation of students in Chinese classes in Nanjing universities and teachers’vocabulary teaching situation through questionnaire survey,and analyzes the existing difficulties in vocabulary teaching.To investigate the problems reflected by teaching experiment based on schema theory,mainly from the activation of schemata and forecast,the schemata of conflict and building,the schemata of practice and consolidate three aspects discuss the teaching strategies.On the basis of a series of empirical research,the research results will be applied to classroom vocabulary teaching,and active training will be carried out in terms of activating schema to predict word meaning and constructing schema,and design a reasonable vocabulary teaching plan.Data analysis shows that using schema theory and adopting bottom-up vocabulary teaching method can effectively improve beginners’interest and ability in vocabulary learning.Finally,by summarizing the advantages and disadvantages of teaching and exploring the guiding value of Schema Theory in elementary Chinese vocabulary teaching,it can help students build macro vocabulary system and cultivate cognitive ability.
