The relationship between self-involvement and wise reasoning was noticed since the Berlin wisdom pattern. It's called Solomon's paradox that people show different levels of wisdom when reasoning about their own conflicts and other people's conflicts.A point is that these results are only tested in western subjects and lack the evidence of eastern culture, especially Chinese culture. What's inevitable is that the relationship between self-involvement and wise reasoning can be influenced by different self-constructs of the west and the east.As a result, even though these conclusions can be generalized that people show different levels of wisdom when reasoning about their own conflicts and other people's conflicts, whether or not people would show different levels of wisdom when reasoning about their own conflicts and their friends5 conflicts is still a question for the Chinese self-construct they hold. For this reason, this research first tests whether people would show different levels of wisdom when reasoning about their own conflicts and others'conflicts. After that,it's explored and discussed whether this phenomenon would change in Chinese culture environment based on the researches of cultural psychology.Study 1 aimed to test the difference of wise reasoning performances between personal conflicts and friends' conflicts of participants. This study conducted an Internet-based research with the help of Questionnaire Star and got 200 effective records based on the Situated Wise Reasoning Scale and Event-Reconstruction Protocol. The result shows that people reason equally wisely between their own conflicts and friends' conflicts.Study 2 aimed to test the difference of wise reasoning performances between personal conflicts and other people's conflicts of participants. This study conducted a laboratory research by inviting 62 subjects to our lab based, again,on the Situated Wise Reasoning Scale. What's different with study 1 is that both Event-Reconstruction Protocol and hypothetical situations are used to set up the experimental conflicts situations. The result shows that people reason less wisely about their own conflicts than other people's conflicts.Study 3 aimed to test the difference of wise reasoning performances among personal conflicts, friends' conflicts and other people's conflicts of participants. We invited 121 subjects to our lab to finish three different kinds of tasks based on the Situated Wise Reasoning Scale and Event-Reconstruction Protocol. The results show that the main effect of self-involvement is significant and people reason equally wisely between their own conflicts and friends' conflicts but reason more wisely about other people's conflicts. In the last, the relationship between self-involvement and wise reasoning was discussed, and two conclusions were drawn:(1)the Solomon paradox is a limitation of thinking in both western and Chinese culture;(2)Wise reasoning shows the pattern of difference sequence in Chinese subjects.
