The development of international Chinese language teaching has brought unprecedented opportunities to Chinese volunteers these years.A large number of Chinese volunteers have been sent overseas to engage in Chinese teaching.China and South Korea have established diplomatic relations for many years.Every year,a large number of Chinese volunteers are sent to South Korea. They contribute their own strengths in teaching positions. However, opportunities often accompany challenges.China and South Korea have different cultural backgrounds.Chinese volunteers inevitably have cross-cultural communication barriers in South Korea. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the cases.First,we surveyed 30 Chinese volunteers who went to South Korea to teach in 2017 and collected 94 intercultural communication related cases through interviews. We classified the collected cases according to the results of intercultural communication and the performance of intercultural communication, the collected cases were classified, and selected 36 typical cases for key analysis.Intercultural communication cases can be divided into positive intercultural communication and negative intercultural communication according to the results.According to their expressions, they can be divided into:customs, values, language communication and motivation factors.Second,we analyze the underlying causes of cross-cultural communication from both subjective and objective reasons:objective reasons are geographical environmental reasons and historical reasons;Subjective reasons mainly include differences in individual volunteers, differences in understanding caused by different values, lack of knowledge of South Korean culture, and differences in concepts caused by ethnocentrism. Finally,in response to the problems arising from cross-cultural communication,we conducted a survey of 78 Chinese volunteers who went to South Korea on the intercultural communication skills through questionnaires.Combined with the results of the questionnaire survey,we proposed strategies for realizing effective intercultural communication of Chinese volunteers from three aspects:before going to South Korea, while going to South Korea, and after going to South Korea. To help Chinese volunteers in South Korea to better intercultural communication and contribute to the friendly cooperation between China and South Korea.
