A Comparative Study Of Kangxi And Qianlong's Southern Tour Poems

Emperor Kangxi and Qianlong were not only outstanding monarchs,but also poets with outstanding works.And they were both famous in history because their tours of inspection in southern China for six times,both of them created a large number of imperial poems during these tours.The two emperors have many similarities,but in fact,Kangxi and Qianlong were always two individuals with lots differences.At present,the companson between Kangxi's and Qianlong's southern tour poetry is still a new area of research.Based on the study of the southern tours,this thesis focus on the their poems,aims to analyze the similarities and differences of the poetic creation mentality,the poetry compilation status,the theme emotion,the aesthetic orientation and the value influence through comparative study.At the same time,it breaks through the space-time resistance and puts Kangxi's and Qianlong's southern tour poems into the history of literature development,to provide a new perspective for the study of literature in Qing Dynasty.The environment has a direct impact on poetry creation and poet mentality,so the first part of the thesis examines the similarities and differences between the writing backgrounds of Kangxi and Qianlong.First of all,we start from the introduction of Kangxi and Qianlong's life,although they were both Manchu nobles,different living and growing environments cast different personalities of the two emperors,as well as different ideas of govermance,which formed the internal factors influencing their poetry creation.In terms of external factors,the prosperity of the society and the special environment of Jiangnan directly created the environment for Kangxi and Qianlong's poetry creation.And their different attitudes toward Jiangnan,the similarities and differences between the purposes of the south tour,and the commonality and individuality of the measures also affected the poetry creation of the two.Literature is the basis of the study of poetry.In the second part of the thesis,we examine the existing imperial southern tour poems of Emperor Kangxi and Qianlong.Both of them had certain literary talents were fond of writing poems,and and their poems are recorded in books.Through the textual research on the year of creation,sorting out the circulation,comparing various versions and collecting the lost ones,it can be concluded that Kangxi created 237 poems during his southern tours and Qianlong created 3,622 poems.In the third chapter,we carry out the study the poetry texts and compare the similarities and differenees of the contents of Kangxi's and Qianlong's southern tour poems.During the process of the southern tour,Kangxi and Qianlong both wrote poetry on the theme of caring people,controling water,sightseeing and inspecting bureaucracy,reflecting the consciousness and spirit of being the emperor.On the other hand,Kangxi and Qianlong also showed different feelings and ambitions in the imperial southern tour poems.Compared with Kangxi,Qianlong paid more attention to and admired Jiangnan culture.In the poems given to officials,Kangxi conveyed encouragement,while Qianlong prefers to teach-Qianlong's military parade poetry is not only far more than Kangxi's,but also shows the unrestrained pride of the world.However,differ from Kangxi's poems,Qianlong revealed obvious arrogance in the later southern tour poems.Finally,in the family poems,Kangxi and Qianlong also expressed their different feelings of loving children and filial piety.The fourth part of the thesis mainly compares the artistic features of the Kangxi's and Qianlong's imperial southern tour poems.First of all,from the aspects of poetry theme,art form,expression technique and language style,we conclude the same artistic features of Kangxi and Qianlong's southern tour poems with wide-ranging themes,prefaces and notes,historic,and arrogance.On the contrary,Qsianlong paid more attention to the language of his poems than Kangxi did,was fond of following his predecessors in form,and and the changes in emotions are more significant.Qianlong also focused on the function of poetry.While comparing Kangxi's and Qianlong's southern tour poetry in the horizontal direction,the fifth part of the thesis mainly considers the value and influence from the perspective of sociology and literary history.Kangxi and Qianlong,as the generalist in the feudal society,their ideas,feelings and attitudes embodied in the southern tour poems have had a great impact on bureaucrats and and literati of Jiangnan.Qianlong also to established the official literary style with his poems,directly intervened the development trend of Jiangnan literature at that time.In terms of value,Kangxi's and Qianlong's imperial southern tour poems recorded the words and deeds of the two emperors completely and showed the cultural features of Jiangnan in Qing Dynasty,which had certain historical and sociological values.As a kind of emperor poem,K angxi and Qianlong's southern tour poem has its own unique style and literary value.
