Research On Zhang Shizhao's Calligraphy

Zhang Shizhao was a well-known social activist since the Republic of China.He lived through four eras:Manchu and Qing Dynasty,Beiyang Government,National Government and New China.At various historical stages,he wandered among parties and was highly valued.As a social sage,he had contacts with celebrities in the cultural circles of various periods and established deep friendship with them.As a well-known lawyer,journalist,educator,poet,scholar and social activist at that time,Zhang Shizhao’s various social activities had left an impact in the historical process;especially as a well-known lawyer,he also made a lot of contributions to the legal system construction in China.At the same time,as a famous intellectuals of that era,he was also a calligrapher with profound skills,outstanding achievements and comprehensive attainments.However,when we study the history of modern calligraphy,we will find that Zhang Shizhao’s achievements in calligraphy have not attracted enough attention.In view of this,the author tries to take Zhang Shizhao’s calligraphy as the research object and make a thorough study of his calligraphic style and achievements,with a view to making his own contribution to the study of Chinese modern and contemporary calligraphy history.The paper is divided into five parts.The first part introduces Zhang Shizhao’s life,including his family background and his experience of participating in politics.T he second part mainly discusses Zhang Shizhao’s calligraphy contacts,mainly involving four characters,Kang Youwei,Shen Yinmo,Pan Boying and Gao Ershi,Starting from his contacts,this part investigates Zhang Shizhao’s calligraphy thoughts through letters,poems and lyrics exchanges with famous communicators.The third part discusses Zhang Shizhao’s calligraphy thought,which is embodied in his letters and complete works.He works conscientiously and strives for perfection.In the process of writing,Zhang Shizhao advocates the control of grace and strict requirements for writing tools.The fourth part is the introduction of Zhang Shizhao’s calligraphy practice.Zhang Shizhao is good at collecting and appreciating.His postscripts and articles all reflect his attitude towards calligraphy and his calligraphy thoughts.At the same time,Zhang Shizhao also pondered on the authenticity of Lanting Preface,expounded his own views through the article,which provided help for our current research on this issue.The fifth part is the analysis of Zhang Shizhao’s calligraphy,mainly introducing his personal learning process and the evaluation of Zhang Shizhao’s calligraphy by contemporary calligraphers as well as his calligraphy thinking.Want to inspire the local calligraphy creation.
