Window has always been an important theme and content in oil painting. It is the opening of the interior space, giving more dimensions and possibilities to the picture space. The shape, size, arrangement and color of the window have a great influence on the whole picture.Geometric window frames can make the picture have a strong sense of form, and play a vital role in the segmentation and composition of the picture. The window guides the light of the picture and is also a bridge connecting the internal space and the external space. Each window is like a viewfinder, framing different scenery. The combination of windows and surroundings makes up different lyric scenes and tells different stories. This article expresses the loneliness of a character in the waiting process by creating a series of waiting series with the theme of women by the window, and enlarges the loneliness through the cafe window. From the perspective of artistic practice, this paper interprets the windows in the works of artists such as Baltis,Edward Hober,Alica, and Stuart from both internal and external perspectives.Especially,Edward and Hober convey the alienation and loneliness of the characters in the urban environment through the windows, which seems to be waiting for something.Combining my own creative experience and problems encountered in the creation and solutions to explore the current significance and possibilities of window theme in contemporary painting.
