A Study Of The Paradoxical Language Of Wilde's Literary Works

Oscar Wilde(1854-1900),one of the most famous British writers in the 19 th century,was the main force of the aesthetic movement in the 1980 s and the pioneer of the decadent movement in the 1990 s.As a writer,he is controversial,but no one can deny his talent and outstanding contribution in literary language."His language is his greatest achievement," Alman praised.It is generally acknowledged that he is skillful and rich in language.In his literary works,paradoxical language is particularly clever,and Wilde is therefore known as the "Prince of Paradox".This paper chooses the language in Wilde's literary works as the research object.Based on the author's personal experience,relying on the specific content of the text,the paper analysis in-depth of the causes,manifestations and aesthetic effects of the paradoxical language in Wilde's literary works.The introduction mainly introduces Oscar Wilde's creative situation and the general situation of paradoxical language,the significance and value of the topic and the research status of the topic at home and abroad.Chapter one traces the causes of paradoxical language in Wilde's literary works.The formation of Wilde's paradox language is the result of the interaction of subjective and objective factors.The commentator mainly explores the origin from two aspects--social background and personal life experience: the complex background of the times breeds ironic and meaningful language.In the mid-nineteenth century,when the Victorian aristocracy was in turmoil and social unrest,writers dared not express their true thoughts.Oscar Wilde's personal life experience led to his contradictory and changeable thinking.His "lucky boy" origin and the "adversary of the times" growth experience resulted in the formation of the spirit of transcending gender tolerance in later marriage and emotions.All these provide hotbeds for the birth of his paradoxical language.Chapter two explores the main manifestations of paradoxical language in Wilde's literary creation.By means of close reading of texts and taking its classical works as examples,the paradoxical language can be roughly divided into four categories according to its manifestations: the first is to intensify the contrast between the opposite and the right,and organize dialogues in a contrastive way to enrich the image of the characters,thus expressinga strong sense of contrast.The second is paradoxical and paradoxical self-contradiction,which forms self-contradictory effects by stealing concepts and superficial opposition.The third is the art of making jokes with exaggerated style and playful ridicule,which creates humor through sophistry and irony.The fourth one is the virtual context of intentional,unconscious and meaningful words,which divorces itself from the context and the dialogue situation and pays attention only to the splendor of paradoxical language.The chapter three analyses the aesthetic effects of paradoxical language in Wilde's literary works.Paradoxical language in Wilde's works creates a sense of strangeness in language comprehension and feeling by deviating from conventional knowledge,and at the same time,it gives new meaning and vitality to what people take for granted in real life.Or through irony,exaggeration and other causes of subversion and contradiction in meaning,they form a strong conflict between language form and content,thus form a strong tension effect.This paper interprets the aesthetic effects of defamiliarization,irony and tension caused by paradoxical language.Chapter four explores the role and significance of paradoxical language in Wilde's literary creation.Paradoxical language is not only an artistic pursuit,but also a philosophical thought.The author analyses Wilde's creative level of form innovation and personality writing,his thinking level of advocating pluralism and speculation,and his expression of existential circumstances,rich ideological connotations and deep human mind.This paper probes into the wide creative horizon,open thinking mode and rich ideological connotation of his paradoxical language.It is an externalization of ideas,not a solidified template.
