Since the 1960 s,Arnold Berleant has been devoting himself to the study of philosophy and aesthetics, and has made outstanding contributions to environmental aesthetics. With the development of his aesthetic field and interventional aesthetic theory,Berleant has gradually formed his own ideological and theoretical system. On this basis,he has put forward his own views on reader's reading theory, which has important enlightenment and research value. In the introduction part, this paper makes a thorough analysis of the origin of the topic, the research value and necessity of Berleant's reading theory, makes a detailed analysis and comprehensive summary of the current academic research status of Berleant's reader theory, and expounds the research methods of this paper. In the first chapter, the theoretical origin of Arnold Berleant's reader reading theory is deeply explored.Starting from the background of Berleant's reader's reading theory, this paper analyzes his reader's reading theory.Berleant's reading theory structure under the precondition of the thought of aesthetic intervention, and the theory of aesthetic interventionis deeply influenced by Dewey and Merleau-Ponty.This chapter will sort out the background of Berleant's aesthetics and its theory of reader reading, and compare Berleant's theory of reader reading with that of other contemporary western theorists through horizontal comparison.Comparatively, explain their similarities and differences. The second chapter will make a basic analysis of Arnold Berleant's reading theory. This chapter aims to further promote the overall understanding of Berleant's readers' reading theory, which mainly includes the following three aspects: first,Berleant believes that literary texts are open and literary texts do not exist in isolation, but are a structure to be intervened by readers,so he especially favors contemporary literary works.Secondly,in the process of reading, there is an important "body" connection between the reader and the text. The subject and object are in a continuous interaction not only in the "spirit" level but also in the "body" level. Therefore,he advocates an experiential reading in the way of reading.Berleant emphasized theimportance of literary experience and believed that there was a "tranrealistic" literary state in reading. In the third chapter, will expound the uniqueness of Berleant's reading theory.Berleant's theory of reader reading was deeply influenced by his aesthetic intervention. His reading theory is organic of the system, which goes beyond the interpretation mode centered on "interpretation of meaning" and has obvious phenomenological characteristics in the way of thinking, emphasizing the unity of subject and object and the unity of experience in reading activities. The fourth chapter will make a brief analysis and introduction of the value, significance and defects of Berleant 's theory of reader's reading, focusing on the contribution of Berleant 's theory of reader's reading. This is mainly manifested in three aspects.First,it expands the physical connotation of the concept of reading;Secondly,it echoes the respect of life aesthetics for daily aesthetic situation.Third,it is faced with the dilemma of being intoxicated rather than rational. Finally, the concluding part will analyze and summarize the central content of this paper, emphasize Berleant's contribution to reader's reading and even the whole environmental aesthetics as well as its value significance.
