Shen Lian Research

Shen Lian was an expostulater known for his integrity in the middle of the Ming dynasty.When the country was in crisis,he fought against the treacherous court officia ls with great courage,so that he died in a strange land,and inspires the later scholars constantly struggle against evil.His poems and proses,by virtue of the great righteous ness,circulated widely in Ming and Qing dynasties.At present,the academic circles pay little attention to Shen Lian,and they mostly focus on historiography.There is no comp rehensive and in-depth study of his literary creation.Based on the Qing Xia Ji,on the b asis of predecessors' research,this paper has conducted a relatively comprehensive and systematic study of Shen Lian's personal experience and literary creation,in order to make a relatively objective and accurate evaluation of him.The paper is divided into three parts: introduction,text,and conclusion.The introduction part mainly talks about the reasons and significance of choosing this topic,combing the research status,and clarify the research ideas,methods and innovations of this paper.The first chapter mainly introduces Shen Lian's life experiences and writings.According to the turning point of Shen Lian's career,roughly divides it into four stages,and clearly outline his living conditions and the change of mentality in different periods.And then discussed the collection of his anthologies in later generations,and the different versions of existing anthologies,and collects and sorts out some lost poems.The second chapter focuses on Shen Lian's social intercourse.This part selects four groups:�Ten talents of Yuezhong�?the poetry community �Baiyun pavilions�?the literary school�tang and song�,and other people,to sort out the main social contact objects of Shen Lian,and to analyze the influence of different groups on him,as well as the characteristics of individual thoughts.The third chapter discusses Shen Lian's poetry creation.In the first section,Shen Lian's poems are divided into five categories according to the content of thoughts: expressing ambition and feeling,writing friendship,writing scenes,divinityand Taoism,and so on.The appendix briefly introduces the ci poetry of Shen Lian.In the second section,the artistic features are summarized as four poins:all kinds of styles,but the poem with seven characters to a line is better;thestyle is various,the poem is like its person;the emotion is sincere;the language is plain and the rhetoric good.The fourth chapter reviews Shen Lian's prose creation.According to the stylistic features and thematic contents,his proses are analyzed from the following seven categories: preface,fu,argumentation,letter,biography,inscription and so on.Prose writing has four charercteristics: writing to make use of the word;both sentiment and logic exist;good at argumentation;both parallel and prose exist.The fifth chapter discusses the value and significance of Shen Lian from the aspects of personality and literature on the basis of the previous systematic research,combined with the historical background and the evaluation of later generations.Shen Lian's personality has been widely concerned by the scholars of later generations,which has rich value connotation and enlightens the present society.Although Shen Lian's literary creation cannot be compared with the great master,it has its own unique style and cultural value.The conclusion part summarizes the full text,further extracts the main points of this paper,as well as the inadequacies of the research.
