The Japanese magazine?IDEA?was first published in 1953 and has since become one of the world's leading design magazines.Its wide range of covers and magazine content has inspired designers and students in design schools.This paper is divided into three chapters,starting from the history of the magazine as a starting point to elaborate on its development process,and then demonstrate the magazine's three main characteristics of artistry,sociality and commerciality with examples.The second part describes the design features of the cover in detail,from the cover font and text changes,vivid graphics,rich and varied layout,the use of color,printing process innovation.Finally,by comparing domestic magazines of the same type with ?IDEA?magazine,the author summarizes the enduring historical experience of?IDEA?magazine.Therefore,by taking the cover of Japanese magazine?IDEA?as the entry point,we can not only study the change of style and the theme concerned over 60 years,but also provide new methods and ideas for the innovation exhibition of Chinese design magazines by studying the senior design features of ?IDEA? magazine which belongs to Oriental culture.
