Baojuan,which often tells traditional stories of popular literature,was very popular in the civil society in Qing dynasty after the emperor Kangxi.To be more attracted,Baojuan assimilates a great deal of traditional genes,such as folk ballad,which can be regarded as one of the most representative art form in those.On the one hand,these folk ballads become essential references and resources in investigating civil life and social customs,and they have seeped into the blood of folk tradition;On the other hand,they undertake the function of propaganda and education of religions.At the same time,they also play an irreplaceable part in the presentation of the story's details and in the characterization of roles when telling stories.In this article,we will take folk ballad in the Baijuan as research object,exploring the characteristics of the ideological content and artistic of these folk songs,traditional folk custom culture reflected by songs in Baojuan is another element we will inquire into.Further more,we will discuss the way that Baojuan quote and rewrite folk ballad,to discover the unique relationship between Baojuan and folk songs.Through investigation,I found folk songs play a very important part in telling stories for Baojuan,meanwhile,Baojuan is also an channel for folk ballad's diffusion.This article consists three parts.In the first part,we will present the ideology and the artistic characteristics macroscopically.In the second part,we will probe into the origin of ‘Lianhualao' ‘Wujingqu' ‘Shiyuege' 'Shizidiao',and we will also analyse the particularities of those folk songs in Baojuan.In the third part,we will take the festival culture,etiquette culture and folk belief for instance,analyzing the importance of the folk ballad to Baojuan.
