The Categorization Study Of Round Measure Words In Modern Chinese

The rounded classifier is one of the shaped classifiers,which is used frequently and has strong selection function.From the perspectives of cognitive linguistics and categorization,this dissertation examines and studies the six rounded classifiers of “Li”(?),“Ke”(?),“Lun”(?),“Pan”(?),“Tuan”(?)and “Qiu”(?).It can be divided into three pairs: one is the study of the classifiers “Li”(?)and “Ke”(?)for measuring small and round things,and the other is the study of the classifiers “Lun”(?)and “Pan”(?)for measuring flat and round things.The study of the classifiers “Tuan”(?)and “Qiu”(?)for measuring the things that gathering together into a round.By using the combination of description and interpretation,case description and case comparison analysis,synchronic analysis and diachronic analysis,and semantic feature analysis,we firstly analyze the semantic features of nouns forming the choice relationship among these classifiers,and summarize their respective category center,the category expansion process and mechanism,and sort out its diachronic development process;then compare and analyze the similarities and differences of each pair of synonyms.Besides,the semantics and usages of the verb classifiers “Lun”(?)and “Pan”(?)are also investigated.Therefore,The whole dissertation is divided into seven chapters.The first part is the introduction.This part explains the reason of the topic selection and the meaning of the topic selection,briefly describes the research status at home and abroad,introduces the research object and research methods of this dissertation.The first chapter of this text is a theoretical overview.The chapter firstly summarizes the prototype category theory,and then combines relevant research to introduce the cognitive basis,cognitive motivation,categorization approach and mechanism of classifier's research.The second chapter is the cognitive study of the individual classifiers “Li”(?)and “Ke”(?)which mean particles.Firstly,we summarize the category center,the category expansion process,and the diachronic development process of “Li”(?)or “Ke”(?)respectively,and construct the categorization process of “Li”(?)and “Ke”(?).Then compare the “Li”(?)and “Ke”(?)from the three aspects of selection objects,category expansion and segmentation,revealing the essential difference between “Li”(?)and “Ke”(?).The third chapter is the cognitive study of the “Lun”(?)and “Pan”(?)which mean flat and can be used as the noun classifier or the verb classifier.This chapter firstly conducts a detailed cognitive analysis of the “Lun”(?)and “Pan”(?),and then compares the “Lun”(?)and “Pan”(?)from the perspective of the noun classifier and the verb classifier.The “Lun”(?)can be used as the noun classifier or the verb classifier.This chapter summarizes the categorization process of the classifier “Lun”(?).“Pan”(?)can be used as collective classifier,forming classifier,and verb classifier.This chapter summarizes the categorization process of the collective classifier “Pan”(?)and the forming classifier “Pan”(?).And we examine the semantics and usage of the verb classifiers “Lun”(?)and “Pan”(?).The fourth chapter is the cognitive study of the collective classifiers “Tuan”(?)and “Qiu”(?)which mean aggregation.This chapter firstly summarizes the categorization process of “Tuan”(?)and “Qiu”(?),and then compares and analyzes “Tuan”(?)and “Qiu”(?)from large and small quantities,whether the boundary is clear or not,and the internal closeness.“Qiu”(?)can be used as a collective classifier and individual classifier.This chapter summarizes the categorization process of the collective classifier “Qiu”(?).The fifth chapter is a summary of the categorization characteristics of the six round classifiers of “Li”(?),“Ke”(?),“Lun”(?),“Pan”(?),“Tuan”(?)and “Qiu”(?).The characteristics of the categorization of rounded classifiers are investigated from four aspects: the starting point of categorization,the process of categorization,the degree of categorization,and the functional evolution of rounded classifiers.The final chapter is the conclusion.This chapter summarizes the main viewpoint of this dissertation,points out the innovations and shortcomings of this dissertation.
