| Charles Dickens is a famous critical realist novelist who has created fourteen full-length novels in his life.Great Expectations is very famous among the novels created by Charles Dickens.This paper mainly explores the behaviors of characters in Great Expectations by adopting Freud’s personality structure and analyzes the influence of personality structure on the behaviors of characters in Great Expectations.The id,the ego and the superego are three elements of personality structure.The conflicts among the three elements will change the individual’s personality structure,which will change the behaviors of individuals.This paper mainly uses Freud’s personality structure to analyze the behaviors of three characters in Great Expectations.Freud’s personality structure includes the balanced personality structure and the imbalanced personality structure.This paper explores the behaviors of Pip,Havisham and Estella under the influence of balanced personality structure and imbalanced personality structure.Meanwhile,this paper also analyzes the balanced personality structure and the imbalanced personality structure of the three characters.Finally,this paper analyzes the positive influence and negative influence of the personality structure by analyzing and comparing the behaviors of the three characters under the influence of balanced and imbalanced personality structure. |
