Richard Rorty is a representative figure of neo-pragmatism.He abandoned the pursuit of essence and rationality in traditional philosophical culture and established his own "post-philosophical culture." First of all, this article begins with Rorty'criticism of the relationship between literature and morality in traditional philosophical culture, and explains the foundation of Rorty's post-philosophical culture and the moral values in post-philosophical culture.Rorty believes that in the public and private fields,The relationship between literature and morality is different. Therefore, the different roles of literature in the private and public spheres are discussed in the second and third chapters respectively. The second chapter mainly expounds the relationship between literature and individual self-creation in the "literary culture" utopia. This part discusses Rorty's contingency about language and self.Based on this,Rorty proposes that literature has played the value of enlightenment and redemption in the private sphere through metaphor and redescription. The third chapter introduces in detail the relevant contents of literary and social moral Unity, and takes the chance of liberal society as the theoretical basis, and discusses that literature in the public domain enables people to empathize with people and things in literary works through empathy. The integration of readers and aesthetic objects provides the possibility for people to reach a moral agreement, thus promoting social unity and progress.and complements the question of Rorty's unification of personal self-creation and social morality. It also expounds the practical significance Rorty's theory on the relationship between literature and morality.
