The Prototype Criticism And Eco-criticism Interpretation Of "Consolation For The Soul" | | Posted on:2020-12-27 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Y Liu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2435330572499581 | Subject:Comparative Literature and World Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Refuge:An Unnatural History of Family and Place is the representative work of contemporary American female writer Terry Tempest Williams.From the perspective of ecological feminism,the literary research critical at home and abroad have mostly explored Williams’ thoughts of criticism and resistance to the tradition of patriarchal centrism and binary opposition in the west in terms of the critical methods of this work.On the basis of accepting the above views,this paper,on the one hand,continues to pay attention to the binary opposition in the work from the perspective of ecofeminist criticism,but focuses on the exploration of the contradictory tendencies embodied by the author,as well as the shortcomings of the theory of ecofeminist criticism ignored by many researchers.On the other hand,I think there is still room for archetypal criticism in the key image and structure of this work.The inner logic of domination reveals a natural world cut apart.This paper consists of introduction,text and epilogue three parts.Body part has three chapters,the first chapter focuses on the work of flood image,by examining flood imagery meanings associated with the biblical flood story,exploring the structure of circulation of the bible prototype,especially on the flood influence on the novel narrative structure and the destiny of the female images.In the modern background,the flood of the great salt lake reflects the new theme of thinking about sin.The flood has been transformed from the product of the dualistic ruling logic to the evidence of the ecological concern that highlights the resistance to the dualistic logic.The second chapter starts with the depiction of bird images and female characters in the work and reveals the intimacy between human and nature highlighted by the focus on bird images and bird circumstances in the work.From the mythological archetypal meaning of birds as the messenger of communication between human and god,this paper focuses on the mutual integration of women and birds of this work,which reflects the common appeal of human and nature,and the close connection between women and nature caused by the common fate of oppression and damage.Chapter three discusses Williams’ exploration of the harmonious relationship between human an nature.First by the author in the traditional binary thought that nature and culture of the opposition,the opposition between the male and female the issue exploited the tendency of contradictions,mining,and analyses the Mormon faith to such factors as the author’s unique regionalinfluence on works,reading Williams on the relationship between nature and women for traditional inheritance.Secondly,starting from the two important poems mentioned in the work,combining the concept of "life community" to analyze the construction of home image,Williams’ innovation on the relationship between nature and women is interpreted.In the last section,the author explores the harmonious relationship between human beings and nature through the analysis of the specific presentation techniques in her works.In order to better draw attention to the relationship between human beings and natural places through the story,manifest the ecological concern of the author.The last part of the paper is the conclusion.This paper considers that even though Williams shows a tendency of contradiction in the relationship between women and nature,her attention to the oppressed groups under the ruling logic is worthy of attention.In terms of literature and art,what writers can really do against the binary opposition and its ruling logic is to create excellent works. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Terry Tempest Williams, image of nature, myth-archetype criticism, ecofeminis | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
