Since the late Qing dynasty,tradition Chinese encountered modern Western world.With Western culture been introduced to China,it has changed tradition Chinese society and culture greatly.For one thing,technology like transportation and information quickly developed in modern China society,as a result,culture and academic exchange became more convenient.For another,Chinese tradition culture and thinking became modernized,as well,the Chinese academy changed in geography distribution,and became modernized.Zhang Taiyan,who dedicated his entire life to inherit and improve Chinese culture,is the most important scholar in Chinese academia.He has taught for almost 40 years in his life,his students spread up to 19 provinces in China.In modern China,Zhang Taiyan and his students formed a significant school named “ Zhang School”,which make huge contribution to Chinese academy and thinking circle,and even other Asia countries like Japan,Korea,Vietnam was influenced as well.Until today,their influence continue.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the academic inheritance and changing among Zhang Taiyan and his students,especially on the academic geographic perspective.Study of Academic Geography focus not only on the geographic distribution of academic phenomenon,but also on the reason and changing of its geographic distribution;not only on the transversal relation of academic and geography,but also on the linear relation of them.It is with this theory that I wish to deal in this paper.Li Gong is one of Zhang Taiyan's students come from Gansu province,this paper takes him as a case study.By discussing his academic and thinking course,to find out the dynamic procedure of the diffusion and changing process of the “Zhang School” in geographic spaces,the changing reason,the geographic distribution and the character of Chinese modern academy,and so on.This paper consist of 5 chapters,besides a preface and an epilogue:The preface mainly illustrated the reason of why I choose the topic,the research overview,and the idea,the method and the innovation of this paper.In the first chapter,with the theory of Culture Communication,I firstly discussed the history of teaching activities by Zhang Taiyan,and the process of how Zhang's books diffused.It is by these two main routes that help to form the “Zhang school”.Then,I discussed the geographic distribution the characteristics of his students in China.In second Chapter,mainly introduced the life of Li Gong,clarity some misunderstand facts of him.Peculiarly,make an overview of his books and its academic value.In the third chapter,I discussed the relationship between the character disposition and writing style of Li Gong,and the environment,include both nature environment and culture environment..In the fourth chapter,I focus on the culture environment of Gansu province,such as the development of its modern traffic,its modern communication technology,the press industry and so on.By doing so,I could then analyze the reason why difference in physical geography can make huge difference in social cognitive,including the academic difference in modern China? And what influence of these academic difference had make?In the fifth chapter,I describe the four study times of Li Gong,they respectively are the time in Gansu Wushan,in Jiangsu Wuxi,in Peking,and in Jiangsu Suzhou.I discussed Li Gong's education course and academic tendency in these different times and places,and through which he lead his way to the “Zhang School” finally.In the end is epilogue,in which I discussed some of my view in the relationship between geography and academic in modern China.
