Perceptual fluency is a kind of subjective feeling or experience that the difficulty of individual processing external information.Many previous studies show that perceptual fluency has an important effect on the cognitive processing of individuals.For example,judgment,decision-making,cognition,mood and short-term memory.As the study of perceptual fluency was extended to the study of psychological research and the disfluency effect was found,many researchers began to explore and verify this phenomenon from the perspective of learning.Disfluency effect refers to reduce the perceptual fluency of learning materials and increase the subjective difficulty perceived by learners,stimulate learners' analytical thinking and improve their academic performance.In this,we intend to explore the effect of fluency on language reading of middle school students from the perspective of perceptual fluency research.We confirmed the existence of the disfluency effect in language reading through three experiments.In the first experiment,the two factors between-subject design was used,the font size(large vs.small)and text color(yes vs.No)are the independent variables,and the reading performance is dependent variable.The results showed that in terms of text fluency,we can change size and color of the text to change it.The small fonts and colorless text groups got a better reading scores.In the second experiment,the two factors between-subject design was used,the text fluency(fluency vs.Disfluency)and image fluency(fluency vs.Disfluency)are the independent variables,and the reading performance is dependent variable.For the image fluency,the disfluency groups scored higher than the fluency groups.In the last experiment,the two factors between-subject design was used,the text fluency(fluency vs.disfluency)and voice fluency(fluency vs.disfluency)are the independent variables,and the reading performance is dependent variable.the disfluency groups scored higher than the fluency groups as well.Conclusion: We can change the font size and text color to change the text fluency.The disfluency effect exists in text,images and sound materials.
