| Verbs are an important component of the composition of sentences,and they have always been one of the hot topics in linguistic research.This study takes the verb featuring both transitive and intransitive "tsuuzuru" as study case,based on the dates from BCCWJ Corpus,the theories of Cognitive Semantics and the method of Corpus Linguistics.The study being conducted to investigate its polysemy and semantic extension.Seven chapters are involved in this thesis.Chapter one is introduction,this chapter elaborates the research background,research subject conducted in this study as well as the significance.Furthermore,it provides an introduction to the review of the previous researches on the verb"tsuuzuru",points out the problems exsiting in these researches,and,and point reseach methodology out.Chapter two is about the theoretical framework applied in this research,this study is guided with prototype theory and rhetoric theory in cognitive semantics.Chapter three introduced the process of data collection and arrangement.Chapter four examines the 16-item semantics of the intransitive verb "tsuuzuru",establishes its prototypical semantic,and probes into the connection among its semantics as well as defines its process of semantic extension.Chapter five investigates the 3-item semantics of the transitive verb "tsuuzuru",defines its prototypical semantic,and discusess the connection among its semantics as well as defines its process of semantic extension.Chapter six discussed the relationship between the intransitive verb "tsuuzuru" and the transitive verb "tsuuzuru".Chapter seven is conclusion,it summarizes the result of this research and put forward further research topics.The conclusions of this thesis are as follows.(1)The intransitive verb "tsuuzuru" has 16-items semantics,among which the prototypical semantic is "the road from one side to the other".The semantic network is formed through semantic extension among various semantics by the means of cognitive approach of metaphor,metonymy,synecdoche,the fusion of metaphor and metonymy.(2)There are 3-items semantics in transitive verb "tsuuzuru",among which the prototypical semantic is "to connect the current and the gas etc".The various semantics extend through the cognitive approach of metaphor to form semantic network.(3)The intransitive verb "tsuuzuru" is not a typical action verb,which is opposite to intransitive verb "tsuuzuru".Based on the common semantic of the intransitive verb and the transitive verb "tsuuzuru",the transitive verb "tsuuzuru" derived from the intransitive verb "tsuuzuru. |
