Conservation And Utilization Of Buildings In The Republic Of China In Nanjing

Architecture represents history and culture of a city,which bears the memory of a city's history and culture as well as its development.The buildings constructed in the period of the Republic of China in Nanjing(ROC),as a witness of history of ROC,have the greatest historic,artistic,as well as social and cultural values.They have been regarded as the symbols of Nanjing.In recent years,with the increasing awareness of the protection of cultural relics,these buildings have gained more and more attention,the protection and use of them has been continuously strengthened,which bring out good social results.However,there is no denying that the protection and use of the buildings is still faced with many problems,such as weak protection concepts,inconsistent surroundings of buildings,improper handling of repairs,heavy traffic caused by tourists,and unreasonable use of architecture.In response to these problems,the author carries out an on-the-spot research,which includes The Presidential Palace,the remains of Nanjing National government,the campus buildings of Nanjing,Soong Meiling Palace,and Cemetery of Heroes in the Nationalist Revolution,to study the current situation of the protection and use of the buildings and to discuss the problems they face.Finally,the author puts forward some measures to increase the protection and use of the buildings in ROC from the following aspects:improving laws and regulations,enhancing law enforcement,increasing protection concept,enhancing the protection and repair of architecture,and focusing on social benefits.The author hopes that this research will provide some effective reference for the protection and use of the buildings constructed in the period of the Republic of China in Nanjing.
