Mao Jin and his youngest son Mao Yi,who were both renowned bibliophilesand publishers in late Ming and early Qing Dynasty,run an institute named Ji GuGe,the largest private organization aimed at collecting and publishing books.Theywere so dedicated to proofreading and publishing cause that Ji Gu Ge could manageto operate for over a hundred of years.Not only had the father and son made suchprofound contributions to both the qualities and the quantities of proofreading and:publishing books on record of private publication,but also they had played asignificant role in sorting out ancient books,literature and documents,andpublishing historical monumental works.The great number of prefaces andpostscripts that they wrote for these publications are important and precious referenceresources of researching on ancient and rare books and also of studying Mao Jin andMao Yi and how they managed the institute of Ji Gu Ge.Therefore,thisdissertation,in an applied stylistics perspective,is going to focus on theorigination,interpretation and exploration on the prefaces and postscripts.On thebasis of that,the themes and gists of the books chosen and published by them will becovered and their academic ideas will be discussed.Apart from these,the culturalcontributions made by them and by the institute of Ji Gu Ge will also be included.
