Chinese Metonymy and Metaphor Words include two kinds of words which are metonymy words and metaphor words.The two types of words have the same characteristic that is one or more of their word meanings used metonymy rhetoric or metaphor rhetoric.According to the metonymy or metaphor,we can divide these words into different types and then get the conclusion about producing regularity and approaches of metonymy words and metaphor words.This article regards metonymy and metaphor words in ancient Chinese language as study object,collects and arranges Metonymy and Metaphor Words of Great Chinese Dictionary(hereinafter called as Great Dictionary),and has further discussions on the producing regularity of all kinds of Metonymy and Metaphor words and then basing on the study discusses the new Metonymy and Metaphor Words in new period.The dissertation is divided into four chapters:The prolegomenon introduces the connotation and extension of Metonymy and Metaphor Words from metonymy meanings of words and metaphorical meanings,and summarizes research status and limitations about these words at academic circles.At last,it concludes the research on Metonymy and Metaphor Words has significance to lexical theory and three main research methods.The first chapter studies research values of metonymy meanings and metaphorical meanings of words.This chapter mentally concludes that the study on metonymy meanings and metaphorical meanings of words can increase lexicology's development and make up for the errors in dictionaries.Not only that,but it can provide ideas for studying of new words and meanings.The second chapter discusses producing approaches about metonymy meanings of words and metonymy hierarchical relationships.According to producing characteristics of metonymy meanings of words,metonymies are divided into twelve types.Secondly,this part studies dominant and recessive characteristics of metonymy hierarchical relationships.At last,it comes to the conclusion that there are some problems of terms about metonymy meanings in Great Dictionary.The third chapter studies producing ways of metaphorical meanings of words.Firstly,according to producing regulations of metaphorical meanings,old words and new words are classified into six types,and this part concludes their respective characteristics.Then it investigates the characteristics of metaphorical meanings of Idioms and Allusions.Lastly,it reveals terms of explanation problems about metaphorical meanings in Great Dictionary.The last chapter explores new words and new meanings that use metonymy or metaphor.In this part,we mainly discuss causes,judging standards of new words and new meanings,and classify these words.At last,we obtain that new words and new meanings that use metonymy or metaphor have different productive ways to Metonymy and Metaphor Words.
