Confront many complex scenes in real life,we need to selectively recognize the information input from vision, and many factors will affect the visual selectivity of people.Other researcher has found that the motor intention will affect the object-based attention, which indicates that the object-based attention is influenced by the external action. It also suggests a close combination of perception and action. In addition,in order to achieve higher external validity, many studies have started to use the real object as the material to research the object-based attention. One of the things that cannot be ignored is the information contained in the real object. For example, the impact affordance on object attention.Although there is no specific study to discuss it,some researchers using grasping objects have discovered the disappearance of the object-based effect in the experiment.Since the external action can affect the object-based attention distribution, can the affordance also affect the object-based attention?Secondly, the previous studies found that different action states of the object will lead to different intensity of affordance,so what role will the different intensity of the affordance in the interaction between object-based attention and affordance? No research has been done on these problems. This study intends to explore the possible interaction between them and the reasons for the interaction by manipulating the real object and its action state. This study contains three experiments.Using the dynamic spatial cueing paradigm, the square box is replaced by the grasping real object(e.g.cup).By this,we were able to research both the object-based attention and affordance in a single paradigm. We compared a handle condition(a grasping cup with handle)and a non-handle condition(a grasping cup without handle)in Experiment 1,and the results showed that the object-based effect was significant in the non-handle condition but was not observed in the handle condition. We varied the action state of the cups in Experiment 2 to increase the strength of the objects’ affordance. The results showed that affordance effects were observed in the active state objects when the strength of the affordance effects in Experiment 2 was increased. As predicted,we also found a significant interaction between object-based attention and affordance in the active state, and the object-based effects and affordance effects could only be observed when the other was absent, that was, they could not coexist simultaneously when the two factors were involved in one experimental design. In experiment 3,the influence of tilt angle on the affordance and the stability of the interaction between them were investigated by manipulating the tilt angle of the object in the activated state.Different tilting angles do lead to the affordance with different intensity, and some changes of object-based attention take place at the same time.Summing up all the results of three experiments, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Affordance does affect object-based attention, and they compete with each other for attention resources.(2)Active state object can evoke more affordance than the passive state.(3)The active object with different tilt angle can produce different intensity of affordance, and the smaller tilt angle can better facilitate the reaction of individual action.
