Christianity In "Robinson Crusoe"

Defoe says that he is to write a religious novel in the preface.This thesis aims at exploring the Christianity in Robinson Crusoe.Before Crusoe's conversion,Crusoe's conversion and after Crusoe's conversion embody the Christianity in Robinson Crusoe.First,Christianity in Robinson Crusoe before Crusoe's conversion can be seen in the biblical catastrophe and Crusoe as a potential Christian,which foreshadows the conversion of Crusoe.Second,by discovering the Bible and the spiritual rebirth of Crusoe show the progress of Crusoe's conversion to Christianity,Crusoe realizes his conversion in the end.Last,Christianity in Robinson Crusoe after Crusoe's conversion is presented through Crusoe as a Christian hermit and a missionary,which states the similarities between Crusoe and Christian hermit,such as Saint Jerome.It also states Crusoe's preach to Friday and other people.By examining the ignored Christianity in Robinson Crusoe,this thesis broadens and enriches the scholarship of Robinson Crusoe.
