Death is an important subject in the field of literature research,as well as the same thing that artists have been saying for t housands of years.As one of Russia's greatest writers of the 19 th century,Dostoevsky's novels always involve the death of many characters,which is more vivid in "Demons".The death image and the way of death in this book reflect the writer's profound thoughts of death,which is more about the author's pursuit of the individual and the nation,morality and benevolence.This thesis starts from this point of view,exploring the value of death consciousness in this work.There are six sections,including introd uction,four parts of main body and conclusion.The introduction introduces the purpose and method of the research,the controversy has arisen in native land since the advent of the “Demons”,and the research status at home and abroad.In the main content of paper,the first part analyzes the causes of the death awareness in two aspects including cultural accumulation and life experience.However,when the specific text of the group magic is involved,more factors are increased,so there is a new section to explain the special reason of heavy death awareness in this work from realistic and artistic aspects.Based on the different ways of several novel characters,from two types of “suicide” and “homicide”,the second part specifically analyzes the unique death ideology that leads to the ultimate destruction of characters and the process of death,so as to explore the rich connotation of death theme.The third chapter uses Bakhtin's “revelry” theory to examine the artistic methods and narrative methods of the novelist presenting death,and to explore the philosophical projection of the death phenomenon.Chapter 4 from the ideology and aesthetic level investigates the value connotation of death consciousness to further observe the author 's view of death.Viewed from the perspective of ideas and concepts,the work displays the tendency to get rid of self-indulgence and affirmative beliefs,as well as the desire to awaken the national spirit and rebuild the spiritual benevolent order through critical means.In view o f aesthetics,Dostoevsky firmly believes that "beauty can save the world",so its depiction of evil and ugliness,such as death is for the purpose of contrasting it.And in the final analysis,it is the realization of the orientation guiding to the beauty,which is the expression of the opposite unity.The conclusion undertakes the full text and summarizes in concluding remarks.
