Sinclair Lewis and Lu Xun lived in an era of roughly parallel, the former with its sharp style of writing becomes the voice of American society, and Lu Xun is the representative figure of the transition from the old and the new Chinese culture. Both of them are the spiritual representatives of an era in their respective countries, and because of some similarities in their growth experiences and spiritual temperament,so there are many similarities in the creative themes and techniques. This thesis mainly from two aspects of loneliness and rebellion, combines the works of two writers to analyze their life experiences, historical context as well as the similarities and differences of the spiritual level.Through the analysis of the writer's survival situation, the author finds that the two writers' living conditions can be summed up by two words of "loneliness" and "escape".Whether the negligence of Lewis since childhood,or Lu Xun's backwardness in the family road, all planted the seeds of loneliness in their young minds. After the seeds germinate, writers give rise to different levels of consciousness of "escape",regardless of it's escape from the living environment,or the wandering life in the outside can be considered as a writer of loneliness to some extent in the desert. However, because the two writers live in different countries, the social situation is very different,so the lonely rebellious characters created by the writers have different characteristics of alienation. However, the two writers are very similar in their attitude towards these lonely rebels,"out of love, not out of hatred".Nevertheless, the two writers are very similar in their attitude towards these lonely rebels,"out of love, not out of hatred".In addition to the differences in the background, this paper also explores the similarities and differences between the two writers' characters from two aspects ofloneliness and rebellion.Although they are contradictory characteristics of the rebels,Lewis is obsessed with criticism of consumer culture in the United States,,Lu Xun has a keen insight into the "cannibalism" cold society,it is enough to show the vast difference between the two writers on the rebellious object. At the same time, the presentation of the text also displays a crucial role in the writer's social role.Lewis is a critic of social phenomenon, while Lu Xun is the torchbearer of social thought. The choice of their roles is not active, more is a passive choice, because the historical context and spiritual position of the two writers are very different from each other.Studying the two writers from the perspective of comparative literature can not only glimpse the cultural significance of different national cultures, but also seek the reference of cultural construction from the 20 th century American literature and modern Chinese literature for Chinese society which is in the period of social transformation.
