Inscriptional Chinese calligraphy study became quite popular during late Qing Dynasty.Calligraphers at that time held different attitudes toward this phenomenon.Some focus on learning inscriptional calligraphy writing style,some still kept traditional calligraphy writing style.And the rest calligraphers tried to combine these two writing styles.As a representative calligrapher during that period,Wen Tonghe also had to face up with this dilemma.He is usually classified in calligraphers who learning Yan Zhenqing‘s writing stlye due to his writing feature.The essay is aimed at studying how Weng’s official career produce an effect on his calligraphy according to recently published relative literatures and academic achievements.Meanwhile,the essay also tries to analyze causes which lead to Weng’s forceful calligraphy style and his unique tactic of writing so that his historical status and influence of calligraphy could be defined.
