Fu Lei is a great translator in our country,he devotes all of his lifetime to the translation of French literature and offers the excellent works of Balzac,Romain Rolland and Merimee to the readers.He translates more than thirty books which amount to five million words.Among all of his translation,the novels of Balzac reflect perfectly the translation concept and skills of Fu Lei.His translation shows strong vitality and breaks the assertion of Eugene Nida,the father of the discipline of translation,that the life of translated works can't exceed fifty years.As said Jin Shenghua,Fu Lei is called "the best spokesman of Balzac","the excellent combination between the writer and the translator,the mutual reflection of beauty between the original works and the translated works,both of them are stories on everybody's lips".With the help of the translation of Fu Lei,?Father Goriot?,?Eugenie Grandet?and other western literary canon become the foreign literary canon and the translated literary canon in China.Based on his rich translation practice and profound artistic culture,Fu Lei put forward his own translation aesthetics and advocates "resemblance in spirit rather than resemblance in form".He uses "expression of spirit" in the field of painting to explore the art of literary translation.It's not only an interdisciplinary use of classical aesthetics,but also an injection of new elements to the translation theory.The research of Fu Lei's translation in the world of translation concentrates on?Father Goriot?,?Jean-Christophe?and neglects?Eugenie Grandet?who is highly appraised by the translator himself for a long time.Therefore,this thesis takes?Eugenie Grandet?translated by Fu Lei as the object of the research and analyze concretely how histranslation aesthetics affects?Eugenie Grandet?.Then we discuss the style of translation,the feature of language and the artistic charm of this version.Besides,this master's thesis consults the other translations(the translation of Mu Mutian and the translation of Gao Mingkai)and compares these three versions with the method of case study and the method of version comparison to see Fu Lei's translation techniques in word,phrase,dialogue and rhetoric.The first chapter consists of three sections.The first section makes a general presentation of the foreign literary classics,including the definition of the classics,the import,the construction and the reconstruction of the foreign literary classics.The second section investigates the relation between translated literary classics and foreign literary classics.We find out that the translated literary classics not only has the basic character and element of literary classics,but also is affected by the translator and the circumstance of the target language.In the final section,we take?Eugenie Grandet?for example and analyze the construction elements of translated literary classics.Besides the classical quality,the cultural context and other factors,the translation plays a key role in the transition of Fu Lei's version to be a translated literary canon.Up to now,the literature world and the comparative literature world in our country have done a lot of research on the novel and achieved great results.However,there are few researchers studying it from the point of view of translated literature.It's a blank of the research filed.The second chapter focuses on Fu Lei's translation aesthetics.The first section summarizes the relation between the Chinese traditional translation theory and the classical theory,traditional aesthetics on the basis of the following order:“??——??——??——??”.The research of the translation theory in the new period forms translation aesthetics by means of aesthetic theory.The second section presents emphatically Fu Lei's translation aesthetics from four parts:the translator's aesthetic sentiment,aesthetic personality,aesthetic pursuit and "the resemblance in spirit".The third section analyzes and compares the translation aesthetics of Mu Mutian,Gao Mingkai and Fu Lei.The third chapter presents the specific use of Fu Lei's translation aesthetics in?Eugenie Grandet?.We combine the translation aesthetics and the translation practice by comparing and analyzing the word,phrase,dialogue and rhetoric translation of the three versions to see Fu Lei's translation techniques.The last section summarizes the features of Fu Lei's translation from three parts:the fluency of language,the abundance of words and the various nuances,the expression of four characters.On the basis of the above analysis,this master's thesis concludes that:the translation of Fu Lei forms its own style with the help of the translation aesthetics and shows the infinite pursuit of perfection and beauty.Fu Lei's translation aesthetics is built on his translation experience of decades,it is a great achievement of the Chinese translation theory and deserves the further research of the translation world and the study and imitation of the contemporary translators.After the research of Fu Lei's translation thought and practice,we find that the translator should have the appropriate translation aesthetics for transforming a foreign literary canon into a translated literary canon.This translation aesthetics includes both the translation standard,translation aim,translation motive and so on.Translation skill is the strategy that the translator takes for achieving his translation aim,it is the tie between the aesthetic subject and the aesthetic object,it is also the demonstration of translator's translation aesthetics.Through the analysis of the translation skill in?Eugenie Grandet?,we see that a translated literary canon is built under the direction of Fu Lei's proper translation aesthetics.This canon is shining and living on forever in Chinese literature with its unique charm.
