Objective To summarize the current research status on the relationship between TCM constitution and colorectal polyps,to investigate the characteristic and distribution of TCM constitution in patients with colorectal polyps, and to provide evidence for TCM prevention and treatment of colorectal polyps. Methods 1.The demographic information, lesion location, and the pathological type of the polyp were analyzed based on the data extracted from the Hospital Information System(HIS).2.China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Chongqing VIP fulltext periodical database(VIP),Wanfang Database,Pub Med,Embase and the Cochrane Library were searched to identify all the clinical researches and literature on correlation between TCM constitution types and colorectal polyps.A meta-analysis of the single rate of the cross-sectional study was performed using R version 3.2.2 software, and a meta-analysis of the control data was performed using Review Manager 5.3 software, with rate or odds ratio(OR)and its 95% confidence interval(CI)to express the effect value. Results 1.The detection rate of polyps in patients over 50 years old was significantly higher than that under 50 years old.The detection rate of male in different age groups was higher than that in female. The proportion of progressive adenomas in patients over 75 years old was higher than that in patients between 50-75 years old, patients between 50-75 years old was higher than those under 50 years old.Progressive adenomas mainly locate at sigmoid colon, rectum, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and cecum in ascending order.Sigmoid colon and rectum are the most common sites on which progressive adenomas occur.2.A total of 16 cross-sectional studies with 2341 samples, including 2241 patients with colorectal polyps and 100 controls were included. The proportions of four types of TCM constitutions, which were dampness-heat,phlegm-dampness,yang deficiency and qi deficiency, accounted for 18%(95%CI: 14%,22%),12%(95%CI: 7%,16%),14%(95%CI: 7%,21%),18%(95%CI: 11%,29%).The proportion of the above 4 constitution types was 19%(95%CI: 14%,23%),23%(95%CI: 17%,29%),15%(95%CI: 10%,20%),13%(95%CI: 9%,18%)in patients with colorectal adenomas. The OR value and 95% confidence interval(95% CI)of the proportion of dampness-heat constitution,phlegm-dampness constitution,yang-deficiency constitution and yin-deficiency constitution in patients with adenomatous polyps and those without adenomatous polyps were 1.12(0.71,1.77),2.01(1.22,3.29),2.5(1.46,4.26),1.72(0.86,3.44)times respectively. The OR value and 95% confidence interval(95% CI)of the proportion of dampness-heat constitution,phlegm-dampness constitution,yang-deficiency constitution,qi-deficiency constitution and yin-deficiency constitution in patients with progressive adenoma and those without progressive adenoma, were 1.18(0.51,2.72),2.35(1.27,4.35),1.09(0.64,1.87),1.78(1.00,3.19),1.12(0.49,2.56)times.Conclusion 1.The detection rate of polyps was increased in patients over 50 years old.The proportion of progressive adenomas gradually increased accompanied with age increase. The left colon, especially the sigmoid colon and rectum were the main detection sites of progressive adenomas.2.Dampness-heat,phlegm-dampness,yang-deficiency and qi-deficiency were the four main types of constitution in patients with colorectal polyps(including adenomatous polyps).Yang-deficiency type and phlegm-dampness type were the primary risk factors of colorectal adenoma while phlegm-dampness type and qi-deficiency type were the primary risk factors of progressive adenomas.
