Objective: the incidence of early loss of dental caries in mandibular molars is high. The common solution is to implant, move or fix dentures. With the development of orthodontic technology, patients and doctors often choose to use orthodontic treatment to move the anterior and posterior adjacent teeth to close the gap and replace the missing teeth. In this paper, the width of alveolar bone in the missing area of mandibular molar before and after orthodontic tooth movement was measured by cone beam CT,in order to observe the effect of orthodontic force on the reconstruction of alveolar bone,as well as the influence of age and gender on the reconstruction of alveolar bone,so as to help the clinical selection of orthodontic indications for missing teeth. Methods: 60 patients who met the requirements of the experiment were scanned with planeca promax 3D to obtain CBCT images. The data were imported into planeca romexis 3.8.2r software in DICOM format to reconstruct the sagittal, coronal, axial and three-dimensional surfaces. On the reconstructed image, the width of alveolar bone in the missing area of mandibular molar before and after orthodontic treatment was measured in all patients in this study, and the data was taken as the average value, and then spss21.0 software package was used for statistical processing to analyze the value of alveolar bone width in the study. Results: there were 60 cases in this study,30 male patients, including 15 young patients(aged 18-29),15 middle-aged patients(aged 29-49),30 female patients, including 15 young patients and 15 middle-aged patients. In each measurement item, the width of alveolar bone in the missing area of mandibular molar increased after orthodontic treatment(P < 0.05);there was no significant relationship between the width of alveolar bone in the missing area of mandibular molar before and after orthodontic treatment and gender(P > 0.05);there was no significant relationship between the width of alveolar bone in the missing area of mandibular molar before and after orthodontic treatment and age(P > 0.05).Conclusion: under the action of orthodontic force, the movement of adjacent teeth will cause the corresponding reconstruction of alveolar bone in the edentulous area of mandibular molars, which is mainly manifested in the increase of alveolar bone width, which is not related to the age and gender of patients.
