Purpose:The purpose of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the current evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of herbal medicines to prevent radiation pneumonitis in patients who receiving radiotherapy.Methods:The following databases will be used in this study:Pub Med?Springer Link?the Cochrane Library?CNKI?VIP?Wan Fang Data?and combined with the manual retrieval related magazines,about the randomised controlled studies of radiation pneumonitis caused by radiotherapy,the reviewers will screen the searched studies,and according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Review of Interventions Version to evaluation the quality of literature evaluation and Data extraction,using the Review Manager5.3 to analysis?Results:1?36 literatures involving 3218 trials entered the inclusion criteria.All the exper-imental groups were combined with traditional Chinese medicine combined with radiotherapy or radiochemotherapy,while the control group was treated with simple radiotherapy or radi-ochemotherapy.2?36 literatures referred to the incidence rate of radiation pneumonitis.Meta-analysis illustrated:X~2=36.24,P=0.41,I~2=3%,OR=0.35,95%CI=[0.29,0.41],Z=12.66(P<0.000001).3?6 literatures referred to the incidence rate of radio-pulmonary fibrosis.Meta-analysis illustrated:X~2=1.43,P=0.92,I~2=0%,OR=0.23,95%CI=[0.14,0.36],Z=6.27(P<0.000001).4?13 literatures referred to the incidence rate of radiation esophagitis.Meta-analysis il lustrated:X~2=22.85,P=0.03,I~2=47%,OR=0.45,95%CI=[0.31,0.67],Z=4.00(P<0.0001).5?13 literatures referred to the curative rate of radiotherapy.Meta-analysis illustrated:X~2=38.47,P=0.0001,I~2=69%,OR=1.72,95%CI=[1.08,2.75],Z=2.26(P=0.02).There was mo significant difference statistically between treatment group and control group.6?8 literatures referred to the incidence rate of marrow suppression.Meta-analysis illu strated:X~2=7.82,P=0.35,I~2=11%,OR=0.48,95%CI=[0.36,0.64],Z=4.92(P<0.00001).Conclusion:It is safe and effective to prevent radiation pneumonia caused by radiotherapy of the chest tumor,and can reduce the incidence of radio-pulmonary fibrosis,radiation esophagitis and marrow suppression.
