Background:Tai Chi is playing an important role in Chinese traditional health culture. It is closely related to traditional Chinese medicine culture and also based on the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine. It is considered to make mind peaceful, relax spirit, reconcile"yin"and "yang",dredge meridians, adjust blood and balance organs. At present,Tai Chi has been widely used in clinical research and applied in cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, respiratory diseases, osteoarthritis diseases, metabolic diseases, mental diseases, etc.,in terms of improvement of motor and cognitive functions.Functional magnetic resonance imaging studies have indicated that functional networks exist in brain, among which the default mode network is associated with cognitive function. The white matter's fractional anisotropy measured by diffusion tensor imaging technique is usually used to show the characteristics of white matter fibers. Some scholars have begun to explore the mechanism of Tai Chi's clinical efficacy based on modern techniques,in order to deeply reveal its essence, but only part of the studies applied multimodal magnetic resonance imaging technology to discuss its possible central mechanism, and the selected subjects were mainly the elderly, whose brain function and structure is usually considered degraded in varying degrees, and might be difficult to explain the outcomes. Therefore, the study of the central mechanism of Tai Chi with young healthy people as the research subjects would be an important part.OBJECTIVE:To observe the possible changes in the central of young healthy people who have long-term practice of Tai Chi compared to those without Tai Chi experience, and the expected changes includes the changes in function network and in white matter. The observed changes are related to previous studies of the same type.Interpretation of the mechanism of Tai Chi on the cognitive function would be discussed,in order to further promote the application of Tai Chi in the future, and to explain the clinical efficacy of Tai Chi.METHODS:27 subjects who participated in Tai Chi in accordance with the long-term regularity of the study were included in the study.According to their basic characteristics such as gender and age,27 control groups were matched one by one.One researcher recorded the basic information including height, weight, and education level of the two groups, conducted the connection test and recorded the test results, and performed a functional image scan of 8'10",and a diffusion tensor image of 6'16".And a 4'18”T1 structure scan.Statistical methods were used to test whether the results of the two groups'trail making test were different.Based on the statistical analysis of the brain function images of the two groups, the functional connectivity between the two groups was compared. The brain function between the two groups was discussed to figure out the differences and behavioral changes, and analysis of their possible relevance.Based on the two groups of diffusion images, the tract-based spatial statistics was used to calculate and compare the white matter's fractional anisotropy of the two groups, and further analyze the brain structure changes that may exist on the basis of brain function changes.RESULTS:After comparison between the Tai Chi group and the control group, there was no statistical difference of height, weight, and years of education between the two groups. The baseline was comparable.Comparing the results of the trail making test between the two groups,it was found that there was no significant difference in cognitive measurement between the two groups.Comparing the results of the default mode network functional connectivity between the two groups,it was found that there was no significant difference, but the functional connectivity of the left superior frontal gyrus of the Tai Chi group had a relatively weak trend;further comparison of the two groups of subjects in the global white matter showed that there was no significant difference in the fractional anisotropy. However, the conduction value of the left cerebellar upper foot, the left outer capsule and the cerebellar midfoot showed a trend of increasing on FA value. Conclusion:After the statistical analysis of the results of the trail making test, brain functional magnetic resonance and structural magnetic resonance imaging of the two groups, there was no significant difference in brain function and structure between the two groups, but there might be a trend of Tai Chi to adjust the brain default mode network functional connectivity and changing the white matter's structure and improve their fractional anisotropy.Further researches are needed to verify the possible central changes about Tai Chi exercise.
