Abstract/Summary:
Objective Metastasis suppressor 1(MTSS1)was found in 2002 by Lee,which is a new tumor metastasis suppressor genes, namely in bladder cancer, breast cancer, gastric cancer and other malignant tumors in the lower expression.Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)is a tumor factor which is researched mostly in recent years, but there are few researches in their relationship in colorectal cancer. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the expression pattern and clinicopathological significance of MTSS1 and VEGF in colorectal cancer. Methods We constructed tissue microarray blocks containing colorectal cancer specimens from 240 patients.Expression of MTSS1 and VEGF in these specimens were analyzed using immunohistochemical(IHC)and RT-PCR.Results We detected that the negative expression rate of MTSS1 and the positive expression rate of VEGF was much higher in colorectal cancer than in common tissue(P<0.05)by using IHC.Negative MTSS1 expression was significantly associated with presence of lymph node metastases and advanced Duke’s stages(D stage)(P<0.05).The over expression of VEGF had a significant relationship with age(>60 y)and poorly differentiation. Conclusion MTSS1 and VEGF may be related to the prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer, and play a crucial role in the invation and metastasis of colorectal cancer.
