Decorative arts have evolved continuously since the primitive period,and have undergone an evolutionary process from practice to theory to the organic combination of these two.The advancement of science and technology has accelerated the process of globalization and caused scholars to explore the culture of other regions.As a result,the development laws of decorative arts in various regions have been continuously revealed.In the 19 th century,the famous British decorative theorist and designer—— Owen Jones,as a pioneer and practitioner of decorative arts,proposed the decorative principles that played an important role in promoting the development of decorative arts theory and practice.This article mainly takes Owen Jones' s interior decoration design theory and practice as the research object.First,the thesis explores and sorts out Owen Jones' s life experience,learning experience,work experience,and academic achievements;secondly,from the perspective of decoration theory research,there are three important works of Owen Jones are used as representatives to interpret their publishing motivations and main content.And its influence on the present and future generations;again from the perspective of decorative design practice,the four representative interior design works of Owen Jones are analyzed;finally,based on the theory and practice of Owen Jones interior decoration,with Owen Jones and His “ Chinese Patterns” exhibition is the subject of experiments in space design.Through the above studies and experiments,I hope to arouse the attention of domestic academic circles on the theory and practice of Owen Jones decoration design,integrate Chinese excellent traditional culture into contemporary design.At the same time,promote the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional culture in contemporary design.
