In this thesis, the room temperature self-assembly and hydrothermal reaction of 2,4'-sulfonyldiphenol,4,4'-sulfonyldiphenol,5,5'-sulfonylbis(2-hydroxybenzene-sulfonic acid)with s-block metal hydroxides give rise to the formation of twenty-five complexes with various topological networks, which are characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra, thermogravimetric analysis, luminescence, powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction.Structure analyses indicate that the two sulfonyldiphenol ligands after removing two hydroxyl H atoms tend to construct high-dimensional networks with s-block metals. The charge density of o-hydroxyl oxygen in2,4'-sulfonyldiphenol is significantly lower than that of p-hydroxyl oxygen due to the strongly electron-withdrawing sulfonyl group, which makes it easier to remove the hydrogen atoms and forms stable six-membered chelating ring with the assistance of sulfonyl group. In contrast, the V-shaped 4,4'-sulfonyldiphenol exhibits 14 coordination modes and induces the formation of diverse topological networks. The o-hydroxyl group in 5,5'-sulfonylbis(2-hydroxybenzene-sulfonic acid)can further improve the coordination ability of the sulfonate group, and the synergistic effect of the two functional groups makes this ligand exhibit abundant coordination modes, which extend adjacent metal cations into 2D and 3D networks. In addition, these complexes present better luminescent emission at room temperature.
