Since Abbott’s team discovered and named the deep eutectic solvent in 2003,the deep eutectic solvents have been extensively studied. It has been found that the deep eutectic solvents can not only overcome the shortcomings of organic solvents such as volatility, and high melting point of ionic liquids, but also maintain the advantages of these two types of reagents. The deep eutectic solvents are widely used in many fields such as electrochemistry, separation technology, organic synthesis and so on because of their simple preparation,non-toxicity,low vapor pressure and wide electrochemical window. The deep eutectic solvent has a very broad application prospect. In this paper, the synthesis principles, synthesis methods, types and some physicochemical properties of the deep eutectic solvents have been summarized.Based on the investigation of the deep eutectic solvents, this paper synthesized several deep eutectic solvents and analyzed their physical properties. The gelation of the deep eutectic solvents and their electrical properties on dielectrics were studied. The application of the deep eutectic solvents to ion exchange membranes was preliminarily explored and applied in liquid flow batteries. The results show that several deep eutectic solvents have excellent physical properties and obvious electrowetting phenomena.By studying, choline chloride / ethylene glycol was selected as the base for preparing the gel.The prepared gel has better optical properties, and the transmittance in the visible region can reach about 90%.The ion exchange membrane prepared by choline chloride/glycol gel and the performance test in the copper flow battery were preliminarily investigated. The experimental results show that the anion exchange membrane based on choline chloride/ethylene glycol deep eutectic solvent has higher choice of permeability.
