The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the determinants of Chinese FDI in Africa(Morocco,Cameroon,Ivory Coast and South Africa)over the period from 2009 to 2014.China invests more in the four mentioned countries than the other African ones. The study is based on a sample of four African countries panel data, using global Chinese FDI as the dependent variable.I also discussed the question of whether the Chinese invest in Africa differently than other investors. Here, the main results are that investors are attracted to countries with larger markets, and export more natural resources. The result suggests that Chinese investors in Africa are not entirely different than other investors in Africa, regarding the search for markets and natural-resources research. However, the main difference is that institutions are not a significant determinant when the dependent variable is total FDI inflows, while for Chinese FDI,it is significant. In addition,I have also considered whether Chinese investment in Africa is different than Chinese investments elsewhere. The result of this analysis suggests that GDP and market size, and trade openness,in addition to natural resources has a significant association with Chinese FDI in the world, and therefore,Chinese FDI is generally plus the search for natural resources in search of markets.
